Zakāh is an Islamic obligation and one of the five pillars upon which the structure of Islām is built.
It is indeed the most important pillar of Islam after Salāh.

وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَٱرْكَعُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلرَّٰكِعِينَ
And establish prayer and give zakāh and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience].
[Surah al-Baqarah:43]
